Casa Soccer League of Boston In full contrast to last week, Casa Boston enjoyed stellar, sunny and hot conditions. Right from the getgo, you could see that all our teams are getting better with each week, and the overall skill level of the leaugue is increasing. Honestly, this is so encouraging and just makes it a blast to be a part of it all.

Primera Action - The 10:50am at Winsor saw NEI take on MCP United. Both teams came into the match needing a vital 3 points to stave off relegation. MCP quickly drew first blood in the first 5 minutes with a great finish from Saheed Alabi to boost the United confidence. League veterans NEI were not rattled as they began to slowly gain momentum and put the MCP defense on the back foot. United looked to weather the storm, but a wonder goal from MOTM Axel Klimek from an acute angle to right of the 18 yard box from 25 yards out was beautifully curled into the upper 90 as he celebration was equally impressive as he pointed to the heavens in disbelief. The goal swung the momentum fully to NEI. Right before the half Kilmek tried his luck again from 25 yards out with another audacious effort that splashed the back of the net past an outstretched MCP keeper and sent the NEI bench into raptures. After the break MCP could not turn the tide as they looked resigned to their fate in the Segunda next fall and NEI captain Omar Brahim sealed the victory with a second half strike to make it 3-1. MCP face league leaders BIFC and a loss will officially send them down as NEI look ahead to a scrap with the NE Nor'Easters in what could be a relegation battle with NEI and AC Boston still to play each other.

The 12:40 game was a long awaited rematch of last years Free Agent class, as Oneida FC took on NE Nor'Easters. Oneida needed to maintain pace with first place BIFC with a win as the Nor'Easters looked to secure their place in the top flight for next season with 3 huge points. It did not take long for Oneida to open the scoring as MOTM George Watts-Sturrock showed his class as he found a streaking Jaime Mira with an out-swinging 30 yard pass to the back post. for finish by Mira who left footed a side volley into a wide open net. Not long after, league top goal getter, Oneida midfielder, Matt Hardiman crushed a swerving drive into the side netting from 20 yards out after a nice leave from Greg Stitt. The game went into the half with Oneida leading 2-0 as the Nor'Easters looked fired up coming out of the break. It did not take long for Oneida to put the game away as Hardiman fed winger Sean Napier with a well paced through ball from a deep position who then cut back and squared for Mira who cheekily dummied through his legs leaving the ball for a salivating Watts-Sturrock who made no mistake with a thunderous effort that could have ripped the net, as he was on his way to a hat trick. The Nor'Easters managed to grab a couple of late goals to make it 7-2 final score. Oneida looks to pile on the goals they take on AC Boston squad who have conceded 21 goals with a game in hand. Meanwhile, NE Nor'Easters must win or draw against NEI to stamp their passport for another season in the Primera.

BIFC v. Minutemen FC played to a decent game in the heat at Winsor School. A low scoring affair, both teams spent the better part of the first 20 minutes getting a feel for the pace of play. Not a lot of attack, just a lot of ball control in the middle of the field where most of the battling was taking place. However, John Rocchio got loose in in behind the BIFC defenders to bury a nice cross to put Minutemen FC up 1-0, where it remained going into halftime. As the squads came back out on to the turf to resume second half action, you could tell the heat was a factor as things got a little chippy. BIFC tied it up on a goal by POM Jorge Villagran, the took the lead on a set piece strike from Tedi Kujofsa. BIFC over Minutemen FC 2-1.

Retired Glory FC and AC Boston squared off for the 4:20 game at Winsor. Both teams came in with depleted squads... RGFC missing a lot of starters and AC Boston hit by the injury bug. AC Boston got on the board first, with Retired Glory answering. AC Boston hit for another, with Retired Glory again answering. Late in the second half, AC Boston had a 5-4 lead and started to fade as Retired Glory began to place some nice passes over or through the scrambling AC Boston defense, eventually netting the equalized and the game winner. Retired Glory FC wins 6-5 over AC Boston with dual Players of the Match recipients going to Rama Myers and Andrew Stamm. Nice game guys.

Segunda Action - The first game of the day was a marquee matchup between Real Boston and Shamrock FC, with a win Shamrock could keep their Segunda title hopes alive while a loss for Real would effectively end their run for the crown. This game did not disappoint as both sides fielded strong teams. It was a cagey opening 30 minutes as both teams had little opportunity as either side did not look to concede the opener. Shamrock forward JD Rogers pounced on a Real miscue at the halfway line and finished calmly with his one on one with the keeper to open the scoring. The scoreline remained the same at halftime and both squads looked very lively after the break. Again, JD Rogers poached another goal at the 55' mark after a sloppy back pass from Real captain and center-back Esneider Gomez to make it 2-0 Shamrock. It looked as though it was game over as Shamrock began to grind out the game and Real looked desperate. However, the game began to turn on it's head after a Shamrock own goal from a corner gave Real a lifeline with 15 minutes to go. Energized, Real began to pile on the pressure and soon they struck an equalizer from a quick counter attack with a goal from Ken Knikravesh with 10 minutes to go. In a furious exchange of up and down action on both goals it was again Knikravesh who capped off the improbable comeback and celebrated in the arms of his teammates with 3 minutes from time with a well placed goal for Real and the MOTM honors. Shamrock looked shell shocked and need to rebound quick as they face leaders MIT in what could be a title deciding fixture next week with Penguin FC watching closely.

The last game of the day was a 6:20 battle between MIT and Middlesex United. MIT controlled the pitch for the most of this game, with strong play in the middle by Dan Finkel, Kenan Warner and Choya Amenkhienan. Middlesex managed to break through the MIT defense a couple of times to get some nice shots off, including a solid knuckling blast from Dimitrios Kamberidis from straight out 25 yards that made it just over the keepers reach. Middlesex stayed close in this one, but MIT pulled away in the second half an drove to victory 7-3. The win keeps MIT unbeaten and favorites to win the Segunda division and promotion to Primera.

The two Cohasset games showed The Arsenal Maulers v. Penguin FC. Penguin dominates this game winning 6-1 with Justing Putland and Luke Dedeus both hitting twice. The win puts Penguin up into second place in Segunda, 3 points off the MIT pace. The Maulers look to rebound and get out of the cellar with a nice match against Extreme FC. J-Cross FC and Extreme FC then hit the turf at Cohasset. A depleted Extreme FC roster put on a good show against the loaded J-Cross FC squad, but couldn't get the goals to hit. J-Cross FC's 2-1 victory gets them their first 3 points of the season and set's up a frantic push to the end of regualar season for tournament seeding. J-Cross FC looks to repeat it's winning performance with a pretty decent matchup against Spring 2012 newcomers Real Boston FC. This one should actually be a pretty good game!

The Standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

Week 6/2 Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala Casa Boston hit the pitch at The Winsor School in some crazy raining conditions, and had a blast! The games were pretty good considering the fact that it was raining sideways most of the day, so Thanks! for all the guys that hung in there, got their run in and made the best of it!

Primera Action - MCP United and the NE Nor'Easters at the 10:50am showed both teams promotoed from Segunda the prior season. Both teams needed the points to stave off relegation and the match was aggressivly played in it's entirety. Tomas Lopez converted on a 30-yard blast to put the Nor'easters up 1-0, which is where it stayed for the rest of the game - Nor'easters pick up the 3 points. Minutemen FC and New England International rocked the turf for a 12:40pm that was brilliantly played. NEI came out short handed, and let an early one into net. Minutemen then hit another in the second half to take a 2 goal lead, and after the expulsion of NEI's Captain Omar Brahim, it looked bad for NEI. Diego Podesta started the NEI rally to bring it back, hitting late in the second half, and NEI pushed their depleted defensive line up to force the attack. In the end however, Minutemen stayed solid all around and perserved the 2-1 victory. The BIFC v. AC Boston tip off at the 2:30 spot was again another short-sided start based on the weather getting the better of a few players. BIFC came out quick in this match and went up 3-0 before Cody Germain of AC Boston put them on the board. It just wasn't meant to be for AC Boston though, as the scoring duo of Tedi Kujofsa and Sebastian Fritz was too overwhelming. BIFC over AC Boston 6-2, keeping grip on the top of the Primera Table. The last Primera game of the day was an Oneida FC v. Retired Glory FC battle. A Retired Glory victory would have put them over Oneida FC in the tables, and an Oneida FC victory would have keep them in the race for tops in Primera. Good, hard soccer all around, with a few yellows and some nice conversions up close to net. Oneida FC comes back from a 2-1 deficit at half on two goals from Jaime Mira to take the victory 3-2.

Segunda Action - J-Cross FC and The Arsenal Maulers came out for the 9:00am in some pretty raw conditions. This didn't slow down the play at all, as we saw a lot of breaking out in this match with J-Cross FC moving the ball around well in the offensive zone, breaking down the Mauler defense on some nice skirmishes and hits. The Maulers got their scoring groove on as Ronald Gillespie and Victor Sanchez worked the scoring angles beautifully for the Maulers, together hitting 6 times to propel the Maulers to a 7-3 victory. Penguin FC and MIT squared off at MIT at the 10am. A Penguin victory would have put them into a tie for first place with rivals MIT atop the Segunda Table. This was a very competitive game with some nice movement for both squads. At the end of 90', this one was headed into the books as a tie. MIT maintains their grip atop Segunda. Real Boston FC and Middlesex United in Cohasset was looking to be a very solid match. Real Boston FC has stumbled since coming out of the gates real quick this season, with Middlesex United starting to pick up some steam. Matt Sciandra with a Goal and an Assist to squeak out the 2-1 victory for The Big Red, now tied with Real Boston FC in the middle of the segunda pack. The last match of the day was a night cap showing Shamrock FC and Extreme FC - a battle of new teams to the league this year. This was a no contest, with Shamrock easily taking it 10-0.

The Standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Brian Gordon (Oneida FC)
  • Christian Gonzalex (Real boston FC)
  • JD Rogers (Shamrock FC)
  • Kevin Jameson (Penguin FC)
  • Matt Miller (NE Nor'easters FC)
  • Sebastian Fernandez (New England International)
  • Tedi Jujofsa (BIFC)
  • Victor Sanchez (The Arsenal Maulers)

Well this one quite the washout - no photos of the rainy play from this past Saturday. However, check out the Casa Select team we put together recently to scrimmage the Boston ESL squad - well done guys!
