Week 7/16 Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala Casa rolled in the semi-finals on a hot day in Downtown Boston. The weather looked like it was going to push the limits, but as the water burned off the turf for the morning games, the Semi-Final matchups were played in some relatively OK conditions.

Starting things off for the day was a Consolation matchup between MCP United and The Arsenal Maulers. The Maulers were down a goalie, so the Commish promptly volunteered to fill the void. MCP United in 6-1 landslide, with Mohammed Ali picking up a couple nice hits and the POM. Both teams look to come back in the Fall and start their ascent up the table!

The 12:40 match put the Bronzed Plunger up for grabs, as the #9 NE Nor'Easters took on #10 Middlesex United. The Nor'Easters front line of Rick Taylor, Mark Speirs and Sean Matthys attacked relentlessly in the heat, netting a 3-0 lead at the half. However, you could see Middlesex United take the halftime to regroup, and it worked. Getting one back early, they put the charge on for the next 25 minutes, keeping the NE Nor'easter defensive front busy. Tim and Justin Patrie pushed hard at net, but in the end it was the Nor'Easters getting two more and the last laugh, taking the Toilet Bowl 5-3! Congrats to the Nor'Easters and Middlesex United on decent showings in this final. Rumor had it the Nor'Easters drank from the plunger all night long...

On to the Championship Semi-Final matchups. The first was a tasty #1 Minutemen FC vs. #5 New England International rematch of the Fall 2010 finals. This one didn't disappoint, and NEI got on the board way quick in shocking fashion, going up 2-0 in the first 14 minutes. Minuemen FC got one back in the 24' to get into the half down only 2-1. The second half opened with some even play, with both sides getting some nice shots. Golden Boot winner Lincoln Hurney decided to take this on his own, as he hit at the 76' mark to tie it at 2-2, and again at the 87' mark on a crazy 30-yard bomb to the top left corner to put Minutemen FC up 3-2 and into the finals. Congrats Minutemen on the victory!

The other Semi-Final matchup showed #2 AC Boston vs. #3 Oneida FC. Last time these two teams met was in week 5/14 resulting in a 2-2 tie. This one started out the same for both sides until Oneida FC turned the switch on and started hitting net. 3-0 at halftime. AC Boston came out motivated to get back into this one, but Oneida matched up too well. Although AC Boston had their opportunities, and did get one midway through the second half, Oneida kept up the pressure taking this on 5-1. Matt Hardiman netted two and George Watts-Sturrock picked up the Man of the Match for Oneida FC, setting up a showdown with Minutemen FC for the Cup next Saturday night, 7pm.

The results have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Mohamed Ali (MCP United)
  • Rick Taylor (NE Nor'Easters)
  • Lincoln Hurney (Minutemen FC)
  • George Watts-Sturrock (Oneida FC)

Championship is on. It's going to be a sick game.

Week 7/9 Results

Nick Davala Playoffs! Casa Boston returned from the Holiday break in full compete mode. The Toilet Bowl and the Championship commenced under gorgeous skies at the beautiful Winsor School.

The day started with a solid Toilet Bowl matchup between #9 NE'Noreaters and #12 MCP United. These teams met previously on May 14th, with the Noreasters taking it 5-0. Rick Taylor put them up again on a strike in the 1st half, and Alan Guichard padded the lead with two in the 2nd. Final score 3-1 Nor'Easters with the lone MCP United score by Mubarak. Nor'Easters advance to the Toilet Bowl Championship!

The 10:50 showed top seeded #1 Minutemen FC vs. #8 MIT, who squeaked into playoffs. Minutemen FC got up early and soundly defeated MIT by the score of 10-0. Brad Smith and Shane James each hit 3 for the winning side, advancing into the Semi-Finals.

#2 AC Boston and #7 Boston United on the 12:30 spot was a great soccer match. Lots of shots as most of the game was played around both of the 18s. A converted PK put AC Boston up early. After tacking on a couple more in the 2nd, this one closed 3-0 for AC Boston, advancing them to the Semi-Finals.

#3 Oneida FC vs. #6 HarborView Hustlers at 2:30 was a physical, hotly contested battle with a surly playoff atmosphere. Last time these guys met in late April, HarborView came away victorious 7-5. This time around, the tables had changed. Oneida FC got off to a quick start going up 3-0 at half. HarborView finally broke through the Oneida defensive line, netting a couple in the second half to bring it to 4-2. Proving too tough, Oneida hit one last time to seal this one 5-2, advancing to the Semi-Finals to take on #2 AC Boston.

#4 Penguin FC and #5 New England International tangled for the right to play #1 Minutemen FC in the semis. These two teams knew each other very well going into this one, and this game was another Casa Classic. Diego Podesta nailed a set piece strike from outside the 18, over the Penguin FC wall to help NEI go into the half at 2-1. This score held well into stoppage time until Penguin brough everybody into the box for a one final push - it worked as they netted the equalizer on a rush at net to send it into PKs. 11 guys for each team watched from the center circle as NEI was up 4-3 going into the 5th round of PKs. Bobby Goldsmith stopped a Mike Lockwood shot to the left post to seal the victory. New England International advances to the Semi-Finals.

The final game of the day put #10 Middlesex United vs. #11 Midnight Riders for the right to face the NE Nor'Easters in the Toilet Bowl Championship. In a low scoring affair, Nick Nuccio put Middlesex United up in the '48, proving to the the game winner. The Bronzed Plunger awaits.
