Week 5/21 Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala The day started with the sun peaking through the clouds, and it looked like we were in luck with this weeks games. Having already cancelled the 4:30pm Clarke game, Winsor offered some refuge from the standing water found across the other Boston pitches.

AC Boston v. Minutemen FC. Nice match-up to start it off. AC Boston came in numbers, with Minutemen FC squeaking out a skeleton crew for the second week in a row. Joshua Papapietro closed out the second half with a floater into the top corner of the net to up AC Boston up 1-0. Three more goals were posted in the 2nd half leaving this one a 2-2 draw, which will have to be settled come playoff time.

The 10:50am put MIT v. MCP UNITED in a battle for the bottom of the table. Both teams needed top point this game, and at halftime this one looked to be in MIT control, 2-0. It was, and the 3-1 final gets MIT three points for the table, powered by Armon Sharei's two goals.

HarborView Hustlers and The Arsenal Maulers took the field for the 12:40pm. Devin Ferreira put HarborView up early, but Erin Schweitzer of the Maulers answered shortly thereafter. A scoring spree ensued, with HarborView leading 4-2 going into the half. The Hustlers maintained the lead in the 2nd en route to a 6-4 victory.

Penguin FC and Oneida FC in the 2:30pm. Earth Fest initially hung up many of both teams players in Storrow Drive Traffic, but Stephen Oliver and Stephen Weber valiantly stepped in to fill the void at the GK position. At half, this one was 4-1 for Oneida FC as they pretty much dominated possession en route to a 6-1 drubbing of the League leaders.

Boston United and NE Nor'Easters took the pitch to finish things out for the day. Both teams brought skeleton line-ups, and this one was tight going into the half, with BU up 1-0. The BU attack finally got things going and broke through a couple more times to put this one away 3-1 at the conclusion of regular time.

The standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Bradford Smith (Minutemen FC)
  • Agustin Lopez (MIT)
  • Tedi Kujofsa (HarborView Hustlers)
  • Costas Lyssiotis (Oneida FC)
  • Ryan Newton (Boston United)

We head into the Memorial Day break in good shape. Only a few games to make up, with some good weather on the way. Have a nice couple of weeks off, and we'll see you on the other side!

Casa Soccer League of Boston BOSTON, Ma. (Casa AP) - This weeks action saw overcast skies and a chill in the air. However, for those players that picked up the pace on the turf this week, the soccer again was well played and the contests were quite good.

The 9am game put league leading Penguin FC against another contender in Boston United. Tied up 1-1 going into the half, Penguin FC got the better of the depleted Boston United team taking this one by the final score of 4-2. Penguin remains perfect for the season, and sits alone atop the table with 12 points. Boston United now sits tied for 3rd, with a total of 8 points.

In the 10:50am matchup, AC Boston geared up to take on Oneida FC. This was a solid contest, with two teams that looked pretty evenly matched up on all parts of the field. Rama Myers put a nice hit into the top corner of the net, but in the end this one stayed tied at 2-2 and paves the road for a solid playoff matchup in the future. This would be the last game for AC Boston's captain Tony Orlandi - Casa wishes him the best! Good Luck Tony!

The 12:40pm pitted two veteran Casa teams in MIT and Middlesex United. A lot of new faces for both teams, but Middlesex United came out on the winning end of this one 4-0. The result gets Middlesex United out of the cellar and all the way up to a tie for 6th in the table. Meanwhile, MIT looks to brush off a tough start to the Spring 2011 season as we head in to the middle portion of the season.

NE Nor'Easters and MCP United hit the turf for the 2:30pm game. This one again was well played and MCP United brought a serious effort to the pitch, but the NE Nor'Easters got their groove on and put on their best performance of the season to date, taking it by a final of 5-2. The Nor'Easters now sit alone in 5th place. MCP United looks to get their groove back on a match-up with MIT next week.

Casa rivals Midnight Riders and The Arsenal Maulers took the pitch for the 4:20pm at Winsor. The Riders came into this one looking to get on the board for their first three points of the season, and The Maulers looked to push all the way up to 5th place with a victory. A 2-0 result for the The Riders was powered on goals by Ben Katt and Derek Brewer, concluding the days games that Winsor.

The last game of the day was played at Clarke Field - a rematch of the Fall 2010 Finals. Minutemen FC took on New England International in a game that saw both squads in short numbers. Most of this game was played in the NEI side of the field, and resulted in a 8-0 win for Minutemen on another scoring binge by the attack of Shane James and Brad Smith. The win puts Minutmen FC alone in 2nd place. The loss lands NEI in a tie for the 6th spot.

The standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Conroy Hunter (Penguin FC)
  • George Watts (Oneida FC)
  • Nick Nuccio (Middlesex United)
  • Tom Hatfield (NE Nor'Easters FC)
  • Ben Katt (Midnight Riders)
  • Kieran Elliott (Minutemen FC)

Next weeks full slate of games kicks off with some nice matchups. The Penguin FC vs. New England International rainout has been rescheduled to June 5th at 12pm at Danehy #1.

See you next week!

Casa Soccer League of Boston BOSTON, Ma. (Casa AP) - Overshadowed my lurking rain & thunder, this weeks games went very well at the Clarke and Danehy locations. Three of the four games got in under the afternoon weather and there were surprises in store for the 6 teams on the pitch!

In the 12pm Danehy game, Midnight Riders and Middlesex United got in their long awaited make-up game. Midnight Riders were dominating proceedings in the first half. Patrick Ohiomoba put the Riders up 1-0 in the 30th minute after a scramble in the Middlesex Box. All looked well for the Riders, but then the tide swung and Middlesex United dominated the midfield in the second half. Middlesex United's Shahar Lehr struck early in the second half to get the Red's confidence back up. Then a bit later, from a corner, Ryan Patrie put a delicious ball in for Nick Nuccio to get on the end of. The game ended 2-1.

In the 1pm Clarke Game, the two Free Agent teams squared off in a long-anticipated rematch. This one was went to Oneida F.C. in a lopsided 10-1 affair, in which the Oneida F.C. attack got onto the board early with three bombs from way out that found corners of the net. NE Nor'Easters never found their way in this one, as Oneida F.C. continuously pushed through the NE Nor'Easters defensive line. It appears that the Nor'Easters will have to wait until the playoffs to get another crack at their rivals from this year's FA class. Well played Oneida F.C.!

In the 2pm Danehy game, Minutemen FC and Harborview Hustlers played to a 3-3 draw in a physical match played under a steady rainfall in Cambridge. Shane James opened the scoring with a clever chip over the keeper, with an equalizer coming off the foot of Tedi Kujofsa shortly thereafter. The teams exchanged another pair of first half goals, with Hustlers' Devin Ferreira putting away his own rebound after GK Jon Oner saved the close-range header. Minutemen's Justin Govonlu picked off an errant backfield pass to leave it 2-2 at halftime, then finished off Shane James' long through ball to go up 3-2 early in the second half. The lead didn't last long, as HarborView poked home the game's final goal following a scramble in the box. Strong defensive showings from both back lines for the last 25 minutes preserved the result.

The standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Jason Gustin (Middlesex United)
  • Costas Lyssiotis (Oneida F.C.)
  • Justin Govonlu (Minutmen FC)

Casa Boston would like to thank the referees for making these games on short notice. We had three new faces this week, and they stepped in and put on a good show. Well done guys and we hope you can make it back again next week!

Speaking of next week, the action resumes with a full slate of games. We are still working on the rescheduling of the Penguin FC vs. New England International, so stay tuned for that date. See you next week!

Week 4/30 Game Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala Another nice day at Winsor - Love it. Casa Soccer League picked up the action again on April 30th with another full slate of games. The league table is starting to show some separation with the top teams starting to pull ahead of the rest.

In the 9am, NE Nor'Easters squared off against short-manned Middlesex United team. Middlesex United stayed close in the first half, but the Nor'Easters pulled ahead early in the 2nd with the first line, front line attack hitting their stride cruising to the 8-1 victory on three goals by Rick Taylor.

If you're a Free Agent looking for some run, drop Matt Sciandra at line at mattsciandra(at)gmail.com.

In the 10:50am game, Minutemen FC (aka The Mission) and Midnight Riders hit the turf. Midnight Riders looked to put up their first points of the season, and started this one off well, controlling the attack and pushing towards net. In the end though, Minutemen FC broke it open on a solid hit by Kevin Brannan, and tacked on another to secure the 3-1 victory.

BU beats NEI 5-0 in the 12:40 game. BU jumped out to the lead on a screamer from Cyrus T off the left side of the box to beat a completely laid out Bobby Goldsmith, and never looked back in this one. BU looks like they may be getting into stride, so look out for these guys in the upcoming weeks.

In the 2:30pm game, 1-1 MIT took on an undefeated Penguin FC. An MIT own goal put Penguin FC up 1-0 at the half. Penguin FC then went on to open this one up with a couple of nets by veterans Leo Evriviades and Mike DiChiara to take this one to a 3-0 final, with the post-game celebration at Penguin Pizza.

The 4:20pm game at Winsor featured Oneida FC vs. HarborView Husters, and arguably was the best played match of the day. 12 goals combined, this was an a great game to watch, and well played. The spectators in attendance agreed, stating that the back and forth was awesome, and the goals were just as good. HarborView steps up, takes this one 7-5 on four goals from a bloodied Devin Ferreira and HarborView gets their first ever Casa Boston points. Congrats Hustlers!

The Clarke Game put AC Boston v MCP United. AC Boston ran an 8-man squad to start this one, but managed to get a 3-0 lead going into the half. MCP United changed up their formation to start the 2nd half and quelled the AC Boston attack, but couldn't get back in this one. 3-0 was the final score.

The standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for this week:

  • Nick Nuccio (Middlesex United)
  • Kevin Brannan (Minutemen FC)
  • Cyrus T (Boston United)
  • Conroy Hunter (Penguin FC)
  • Ted Kujofsa (HarborView Hustlers)
  • Clay Maxwell (AC Boston)

Next week the action resumes in Lexington with a playoffs rematch of Penguin FC vs. New England International, as well as a Free Agent team battle putting Oneida F.C. against NE Nor'Easters. We are also looking to reschedule the two rain outs next Saturday, so keep that in mind as well. Catch up again next week!
