Week 5 Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala Week 5 saw some really good soccer weather and equally impressive soccer matches! The 10am matches had fireworks, as Minutemen FC and Middlesex United battled hard in a very competitive and hard fought match by both sides. In the end, Minutemen FC took home a 3-1 victory on two goals by Brad Smith. The victory propels Minutemen FC into second place, capitalizing on a 1-0 AC Boston victory over New England International in an equally well-played 10am game. There's a battle brewing for 2nd place in the league standings, with three teams contending for a first round playoff bye.

Penguin FC continues to dominate the league with a 6-3 victory over Harborview Hustlers, who continue to show promise putting up a team best 3 goals against the league leading Penguin FC defense. The scoring duo of Leo Evriviades and Mike DiChiara continue to push the Penguin FC attack, reaching the back of the net a combined 4 times.

In other action, MIT took home a 3-1 victory over Midnight Riders in a very well-played soccer match. Both sides played no-nonsense soccer and left it all on the field. Cheers! This first victory puts MIT in 6th place, on the playoff bubble. Rounding out the action is a 12pm matchup pitting The Arsenal Maulers against Arlington Athletic. Both teams played great, with The Arsenal Maulers getting the better of the matchup on a 11-2 victory. This win puts them in 5th place going into Week 6, but facing a difficult matchup against New England International.

The standings have been updated. Congratulations to our Players of the Match for Week 5:

  • Bradford Smith (Minutemen FC)
  • Choya Amenkhienan (MIT)

Well everyone, it's been a wonderful experience working with you all to build up the Casa Soccer League of Boston from an idea to a reality. Starting from basically nothing, we have been working together to build something great, and by "we" I mean each one of you. You should be proud to be a part of this fast growing league which is run by the sweat of our volunteers and participants. Together with our sister league in Philadelphia, we have a combined 58 teams and about 1,160 participants for the fall season. That is a fantastic accomplishment!

Sadly, tomorrow is my last game with the league. On Monday, I will be moving to Hamilton, Ontario and joining the faculty at McMaster University, fulfilling a dream I've been working for the past 11 years to achieve. I have loved getting to know you and I have no doubt you will give the same respect and encouragement to our new batch of officers.

Kai Lucas Adams, Born two weeks ago!

Best of luck, and good footballing!
