Playoff Finals Recap
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala What a perfect day for some Finals Matches! I mean, did we luck out with the weather or what?!

Saturday, November 13th marked the conclusion of Casa Soccer League of Boston's Fall 2010 season. Four teams squared off for both the Toilet Bowl and the League Championship, with both games proving to be a compelling watch (stay tuned for the highlight reels and full matches!).

In the 12pm Toilet Bowl Championship, #7 Midnight Riders matched up against #8 Middlesex United. Playing down 4 men, Middlesex United played square with Midnight Riders getting to the half with a 0-0 tie. At the commencement of the 2nd half, Midnight Riders finally broke through with a goal to put them up 1-0. The game remained close with Middlesex United putting one up on the board, but in the end it was Midnight Riders powering through to the 3-1 victory to win the Bronzed Plunger for Fall 2010. Congrats to Midnight Riders!

In the 2pm League Championship, #2 Minutemen FC took on #5 New England International. The stands were packed on this gorgeous day and the game didn't disappoint. Minutemen FC jumped out to control the play for the majority of the 1st half, with shots on goals coming from multiple Minutemen FC players. However, it was New England International that would strike first, putting them up 1-0 on a strike from Gustavo Petrini in the 73'. The lead was held throughout the rest of the match, and in the closing moments of regular time it appeared this one was headed into the books until the 90' mark when a mad rush on the goal by Minutemen FC led to a goal stopping hand ball penalty, resulting in a Red Card and expulsion of New England International defenseman Matt Summers. In the ensuing penalty kick, Minutemen FC put Lincoln Hurney to the mark and he buried the PK to tie the game at 1-1 and into overtime.

Going into the two 10-minute extras, New England International wasted no time as Omar Brahim hit the back of the net in the 95' putting them up 2-1, proving to be the game winner. Michael Michalczewski tacked on another goal at 109' to give New England International a 3-1 lead, taking the League Championship in dramatic style. Congrats to New England International on the Casa Boston Fall 2010 Title!

Mad props to our Players of the Match:

  • Nick Nuccio (Middlesex United)
  • Bobby Goldsmith (New England International)

Casa Spotlight: HarborView Hustlers
Posted by Casa Soccer League of Boston...

Casa Soccer League of Boston

Team HarborView Hustlers is a group of Camp Harbor View employees that truly love their job. Created to offer Boston children a true summer camp experience, Camp Harbor View is an initiative of the not-for-profit Camp Harbor View Foundation, Inc. in partnership with the City of Boston and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. Soccer is an integral part of the athletics program at the camp and through this sport they have found a way not only to come together as a staff but to also give back. Their goal is to cover the $3,000 it costs to send just one child to camp through fundraisers. As the camp is non-profit, they count on the support of donors to cover the cost and only ask for $5 for the four week sessions of the camp from the families. Having researched various Boston soccer leagues online, they joined Casa Boston this Fall looking for a well organized league in hopes for an optimal soccer experience. Casa Boston would like to recognize the HarborView Hustlers for their incredible perseverance and for their unrelenting improvement over the course of the Fall 2010 season.

About Camp Harbor View

We offer 700 children ages 11 to 14 living in Boston?s at-risk neighborhoods the opportunity to leave the city during the day and participate in a four-week summer camp program. Offering the traditional activities that summer camp is known for, such as hiking, arts and crafts, sports and swimming, Camp Harbor View also includes innovative programs that strive to build children?s confidence and leadership strengths. Collaboration with our Program Partners provides the campers the opportunity for learning and discovery through a wide range of programs and activities brought to us by experts in their field.

Once campers age out of the program, they are eligible to apply to the Camp Harbor View Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. The CIT program keeps alumni campers ages 15 ? 17 years old connected to Camp Harbor View through job readiness, training, college preparation and fun, both during summer camp sessions and year-round.

Beyond the summer, Camp Harbor View strives to continue and strengthen our relationship with all our campers and their families by maintaining contact through monthly camper reunions, activities and The Camp Harbor View Parent Connection group.

Our hope is to bring joy into each of the lives the camp touches and introduce the campers to new passions and skills they would not otherwise be aware of, striving to inspire them in their school years and beyond.

Playoff Semifinals Results
Posted by Nick Davala...

Nick Davala WOW! The Playoff semifinals were AWESOME! Four sick teams squared off for a chance to play for the Championship in nothing short of spectacular fashion!

In the 10am League Semifinal, #1 Penguin FC squared off against #5 New England International in what was hyped as a war in the making. This was a great game with some serious turf battles and the two teams battled hard with 6 cards overall- there were definite signs of this one getting out of control, but in the end, both teams kept it together for one of the greatest Casa Boston games ever. New England International pulled it off 3-1, sending them to their first League Championship game.

The 12pm match featured #2 Minutemen FC vs. #3 AC Boston in the other League Semifinal. Last time they met was in a Week 4 tie. AC Boston had been hit with injuries coming into this one, but put it up for the first 20 minutes, then Brad Smith blew the gates open in what would be a 4 goal performance, sending Minutemen FC to the victory.

Congratulations to our Players of the Match:

  • Brad Smith (Minutemen FC)
  • Tom Allen (Penguin FC)
